Survival Preparedness

In these times we want to make sure our families will be safe in the event of a disaster. We have seen in recent events as well as throughout history disasters like;

These are just some of the larger disasters from around the world and there are scores of others that have left people and their families displaced, out of food and water and with no end in sight. These are only the natural disasters there have been countless more induced by man and many of these had aftermaths created by man that make the incident itself look delicate in nature to the crimes commited against others.

Survival preparedness means attaining the state of having been made ready to outlive another person, thing, or event. As time passes and life becomes comfortable we often start to forget what it would be like if the creature comforts of life where to suddenly not be as they now are or have been. Concentrating at times too much on the material things in life we often neglect the comfort levels of a dramatically different situation. A true assessment of your preparedness will determine whether life will be scarcely survivable or comfortable should a dramatic change take place.

Now you need to realize that being prepared is more than just stocking away some soup and Oodles of Noodles. Preparedness is a mindset and a lifestyle change. It is a physical and psychological tree with branches going in multiple directions all supporting, and feeding off one another. Neglecting one of these areas could very easily break down one or all of the others.  It is important to assess your actions and situation long before your need for it arises.

For example when was the last time you worked out? What is your physical health state right now? People tend to forget or just don’t know how the mind body component is affected by a drastic lifestyle change. How much of your day do you spend in a sedentary state? Ok don’t bite my head off by saying “my job forces me to be behind a desk for 8 hours”.  OK fine but your job didn’t plant your butt on the couch when you got home. How much sitting around do you think you will be doing in a survival situation?

Get up start training your body, hit the gym a few times a week or start walking or running. Start to get you in the physical shape you will need to be in to walk to your destination. The strength to do the manual labor it will take to survive. Don’t put this off anymore than you have possibly put off other preparations necessary. Remember with any disaster once it begins it is too late to start putting things together.

Make sure you have your basic living necessities together and ready to go. If you have to get out of dodge make sure what you need, can be carried on your back, is enough to get you and your family through the situation and that you have the means and ability to protect it. This so called infrastructure needs to be planed and prepped now not at the time of need.

If you think this is paranoia and not necessary I leave you with this to ponder;

What would the physical and psychological affect be on you or your family if the need to survive was there and you had made no prior arrangements to see that those needs where met?
